MyGreenBuildings recently completed an Island Getaway on an inter-costal island separated from the mainland by water.  The "Sarasota Island House" was built as a weekend retreat in a style reminiscent of the "Old Florida" cottages built before Air-conditioning.  Taking about 6 months to complete, the collaborative design of this home can accommodate multiple families for weekend retreats using multi-purpose rooms and an open living design for large gatherings.

The house has less than 2,000 square feet of conditioned finished space but over 3,000 square feet of covered finished living space.
