MyGreenBuildings is nearing the completion of a year-and-a-half long construction project on Siesta Beachfront -- an exciting, multi-story eco-friendly beach home for a highly eco-minded couple who plan on sharing their beach home with an extended family. Architecture by Ron Sivitz, of Sivitz Innovative Designs and Architectural and Interior Design by James Lass Designs, Houston Texas. The project is located on Siesta Key Beach, and involves a well thought-out sustainable approach to this design-build. The project is expected to be the first LEED certified home on Siesta Beach, and will include photo-voltaic solar power, vegetated/landscaped roof, native dune re-vegitation and drought tolerant native landscape requiring zero permanent irrigation, highly insulated and energy-efficient building envelope, high efficiency air-conditioning, water reclamation, and many other cutting edge green/healthy materials, systems and designs.

SInce completing the beach cabana of this "sensitively scaled beachfront compound", MyGreenBuildings deconstructed and recycled the original 1950 single story home to make way for the elegant coastal contemporary design that was developed by Yehuda Inbar AIA architect. The cabana has been certified green by the Florida Green Building Coalition and the Main home will be LEED certified under the US Green Building Council's LEED for Homes program. Phase 2 -- construction of the main house -- started earlier this year.

Carl Abbott Designed - Restoration Project
MyGreenBuildings was selected to perform the careful restoration of an original Carl Abbott modern home in Sarasota. Being selected as the general contractor to conduct this restoration is an honor for our company as we are big fans of his work. The restoration consisted of removing and replacing the entire facade of the home -- and re-applying cedar ship-lap siding, modest and careful interior renovation, decking, pool, and hardscape.

We are thrilled and honored to have been chosen to construct this uniquely designed custom home by Halflants + Pichette - Studio For Modern Architecture. Our Clients are a retired Chairman of a large 3rd generation commercial contracting firm in the Mid-West and his wife - an active national fortune 500 business consultant. Set in a live oak hammock, the house is designed for a contractor who asked for exposed raw construction. The palette of materials is limited to cor-ten steel, glass, and exposed pre cast concrete.
The house is designed as a landscape viewing device. Sliding glass walls and expansive terraces help blur the distinction between interior and exterior.
Wide concrete beams maximize the cantilevers over the site and the creek. One such beam serves as the entry bridge into the house. The house retains a small footprint to help preserve the 2 acre site.
While the site will remain in its natural state without formal lawns, the roof will be planted with drought tolerant grass.

MyGreenBuildings is creating an Island getaway on a remote island -- A true "Old School" build in a passive solar conditioned style reminiscent of the "Old Florida" cottages built before Air-conditioning. The house has less than 2,000 square feet of conditioned space but over 3,000 square feet of covered living space. Scheduled completion in under 6 months!

This past summer, 2009, MyGreenBuildings deconstructed and rebuilt a 3 bedroom home one house away from the beautiful pristine sand in Siesta Key Village. The home was re-designed, gutted to the cinder block walls, and substantially morphed into a new getaway for a midwest couple and their family and grand kids. Sanderling Cottage Home
MyGreenBuildings recently completed multiple additions and a whole house face lift on a classic Florida bungalow. The additions to the home included a new master bedroom wing, living room, and new garage. MyGreenBuildings designed the restoration and addition with lots of outdoor decks, wrap around windows and traditional exposed rafter tails with painted cypress t&g soffits, and a new metal roof to meet the new hurricane code. This waterfront retreat is a lovely example of how re-building and expanding on to an existing home can give our clients all the space and luxury you would expect from a new structure...for about half the cost.

We have recently completed the highest scoring green home in the State of Florida -- performing a substantial re-build of an original Rutenberg Ranch design - which underwent an extensive redesign with the help of Osborn Sharp Architects (designers of the famed Florida House). This asian-influenced green design incorporates large overhanging soffits providing shading to the home, a second story living quarters addition, and creative natural light wells. The new floor plan includes large terraces that are open to the great room through 20 foot wide folding door openings. The front entrance features an over-the-water path, and waterfall. MyGreenBuildings was hired to construct a unique front facade addition to one of the oldest homes on Lido Beach. Created to house a zendo for meditation, Architect Claude Armstrong of
Armstrong + Cohen Architecture
Gainesville Florida created a contrasting shape to the 1940's original hip-roofed bungalow as a playful and inspired space. One of the notable features of the zendo is the way in which the entry was created to protect an important Cuban Laurel tree that had become the owners most prized landscape feature of the property. MyGreenBuildings has partnered with Carlson Studio Architecture to design a thrilling modern prototype home that will provide the latest and greatest technological advances in sustainable building practices, systems and features. This project demonstrates the ability to model any home before it is completed so that construction and architectural details can be fully developed prior to actual construction. At MyGreenBuildings, we model homes to evaluate proper site placement, solar path impact to the home, and other sustainable design opportunities.

Inbar architect AIA has created an exclusive custom design with MyGreenBuildings for a waterfront lot on Siesta Key's exclusive Bay Island subdivision. The home appears to float above the ground, allowing the entire space under the footprint to be used for recreation, entertaining, auto storage and a foyer entry. “We are proud to be involved and offer up our services to such a landmark resource for our community and the world eye.” - Steve Ellis
Osborn Sharp associates, an architecture and design firm known for its long-term commitment to sustainable “green” design is back at the helm steering the design for the “New” Florida House – which has been moved, and is “hovering” over its new home on Beneva Road.
Terry Osborn and the Florida House Committee selected MyGreenBuildings as the contractor to help coordinate the green retrofit of the home in its new location. “MyGreenBuildings will pull the necessary permits, and provide the Florida House with the helpful oversight and act as point coordinator of the many subcontractors working on this important project”, said Osborn. “We intend to upgrade the already significantly green home with technologies and systems that are current to today’s standards – and make this a model for sustainable retrofitting – of which there is a substantial need for throughout this state.”
|

“If you just think of how many homes there are in just Sarasota County alone
that are in need of upgrading to make the home more energy efficient, healthy,
and fortified – the opportunities are endless.” Says Steve Ellis of MyGreenBuildings. |
