SUSTAINABLE GREEN BUILDING . RESIDENTIAL . COMMERCIAL

From our Press Release:
MyGreenBuildings staff kicks off a wave of volunteerism to help complete the renovation and re-opening of the Florida House Learning Center
On Saturday, February 6th, MyGreenBuildings is volunteering its entire staff for a day to help construct the Florida House Learning Center’s new deck. “We have arranged all of our schedules for a MyGreenBuildings Team-"Building" day for Saturday February 6th with our employees, their families and a several valued vendors”, said Grant Castilow, President. “We have signed our team up for the “Give a Day. Get a Disney Day” program that Disney has created to inspire volunteer service. In exchange for the day’s work our team will be provided a free day pass to Disney. We hope to kick off a wave of volunteers to come together to provide the necessary labor, materials and financial support to complete the renovation in anticipation of the re-opening events scheduled for the end of April”, said Castilow.
MyGreenBuildings has been volunteering as the Florida House Learning Center’s construction manager through the relocation and reassembly on its new site on the SCTI campus a ¼ mile north of the Beneva and Proctor intersection on Beneva. “We are excited to be putting on our tool belts to help do our part to make all the hard work and planning that has taken place over the past two years finally come to fruition” said Castilow. “Figuring out how to get our younger kids involved has been the biggest challenge of course…and selling lemonade to support the Florida House seems to be the ticket…so it should be a really fun day.”

MyGreenBuildings Selected as General Contractor for Florida House Retrofit and Re-Model
Osborn Sharp associates, an architecture and design firm known for its long-term commitment to sustainable “green” design
is back at the helm steering the design for the “New” Florida House – which has been moved, and is “hovering” over its new home
on Beneva Road.
Terry Osborn and the Florida House Committee selected MyGreenBuildings as the contractor to help coordinate the green retrofit of the home in its new location. “MyGreenBuildings will pull the necessary permits, and provide the Florida House with the helpful oversight and act as point coordinator of the many subcontractors working on this important project”, said Osborn. “We intend to upgrade the already significantly green home with technologies and systems that are current to today’s standards – and make this a model for sustainable retrofitting – of which there is a substantial need for throughout this state.”
“If you just think of how many homes there are in just Sarasota County alone that are in need of upgrading to make the home more energy efficient, healthy, and fortified – the opportunities are endless.” Says Steve Ellis of MyGreenBuildings. “We are proud to be involved and offer up our services to such a landmark resource for our community and the world eye.”
The Florida House was moved by local house mover R. E. Johnson, and sits on a custom cradle “hovering” above its new home, awaiting the construction of close to 100 specially designed piers that will be constructed under the home to hold up the house by its original slab-on-grade – which was excavated along with the home for the move, and will remain elevated on the new site. The new crawl space will allow for cistern water storage, flood protection and for easy access for future changes in the plumbing and other systems.
